Replacing your roof
when you have solar.
Get the roofing and solar parts of your project aligned before work starts.
Start with the roof and the array
Collect roof age, roof material, solar installation date, equipment documentation and any active warranty documents. Explain the reason for replacement and whether leaks or damage appear near mounting points. An assessment should distinguish the roof scope from the solar scope.
Put responsibilities in writing
Your proposal should identify who disconnects and removes the equipment, who stores it, who performs roofing work, and who reinstalls and tests the array. Ask which party is responsible for mounting attachments, flashing and roof penetrations. Confirm how hidden damage or incompatible mounting hardware would be handled.
Confirm the local requirements
Permits, electrical inspections and utility notifications depend on the jurisdiction and scope. Ask your project provider to identify the applicable authority and requirements. A city information link is a starting point, not a substitute for verifying rules for your property.
Plan for downtime and safe storage
Your solar system will not produce normally while it is disconnected. Ask for the planned removal and reset dates, access needs, panel storage location, weather contingencies and a process for documenting equipment condition.
Close the project with records
Request completion photos, inspection records where applicable, system testing results and a monitoring check. Keep the roofing and solar agreements together, including written warranty terms and future service contacts.
